GRS Super Ikari Joystick

I was skeptical, not going to lie.
Received my 2 in the mail yesterday.
I was immediately impressed by the very heavy shipping boxes.
Unboxing these brought an immediate ile to my face. The quality of the contents is impeccable. These will be installed in my custom Arcade1up build. I can hardly wait!
Got a 19” Dell monitor, Raspberrypi 3 and full set of MAME 201 non-merged roms snd will sort out all of the rotary SNK games.
The GRS joysticks far exceeded my expectations. I am quite happy!!!
A very nice well written manual with QRC codes to detail every facet of the installation. Very impressive product!!
Thank you tsticks!!!

FAIL!

I tried, and failed, to get this working with Batocera for Raspberry Pi.... and when I did manage to get the Batocera build working, using whatever ROMS/BIOS I could get/already had (from OpenEmu), it only functioned partially (stick navigated up down left right but buttons didn't work).

When I came back to try and finish getting it working, my Pi decided not to display any signal on my LG TV, despite previously working all week.

It was too much for a noob like me to understand, didn't realise this stick only apparently works with MAME 2010 and for that I'd need ROM Sets for 0139 which I didn't have - I only found that out from forums and Reddit after the fact.

I've hit a dead end, and can't be bothered to try and source loads of new ROMS and the other files that this set up needs.

When the Pi was working, I hit issues with programming the stick as I had to use a second controller in port 2, to navigate around MAME/Batocera in order to try and access the dip switches in game for mapping rotary controls, but Batocera would only allow me to configure that controller, rather than the GRS Stick in port 1.

Apparently Version 42 of Batocera doesn't even have MAME 2010 cores now anyway?... no idea where to get an older version of Batocera, pre Version 38 which I learned from this version on removed MAME 2010 core, again by spending a long time on Reddit.

Also had loads of issues trying to make the TAB menu work in Batocera in order to access the dip switches for programming the rotary function, and even bought a keyboard to access that menu, but again something or other on a forum about the TAB menu not working with certain MAME Cores and versions of Batocera.

It's moot anyway, the Pi doesn't display anything now after it randomly started "black screening" after working well all week..... which I figured might be a corrupted SD card, so I wiped my build and did it again, but that didn't work, so maybe its either a faulty HDMI lead (unlikely as brand new) or maybe even the Pi itself.

I can't be bothered to trouble shoot all of that, so it's all going on eBay and I'm just gonna buy a pre-built& configured Batocera hard drive and forget playing with rotary sticks.

Very frustrating, definitely not "plug and play" as suggested, and I suppose at $80 or whatever it cost it aint the end of the world.

Would caution noobs (like me!) with no experience of Batocera/Pi/MAME to get involved with this. Building the stick itself was quite fun, however the twisty mechanism at the base of the stick was a nitemare to make work too....Truly gutted, and disappointed with myself for not being smart enough to work it all out... the videos and marketing all made it seem like a breeze.

Ikari joustick is nice.

I think its a good kit, for Ikari. Using it for other games. Not the greatest so far. I am sure ther is more that should be set up, but for a starter set for setting up other games. Not the greatest.
The quality is there for sure. Heavy cardboard will stand up to a lot. And I am sure with some more setup and tweaking it might do better for me. Price was right and I am glad I bought it.

Used My Own Enclosure

I just bought this, and the components look top notch. I'm still trying to figure out how to play Ikari Warriors in MAME. I'm sure that it's just a setting issue.

I also bought my own enclosure(holes needed to be drilled out), and I think that it turned out really nice!
