Arcade Flight Yokes: Star Wars-Style Analog Control Guide

The 1983 Star Wars cabinet's yoke is one of the most-loved controls in arcade history — a two-handed column with analog pitch and roll, triggers under both thumbs and fingers. Emulating the game is easy; reproducing that feel needs real analog hardware. That's what an arcade flight yoke is for.

What matters in a yoke

• True analog axes — Star Wars, After Burner and flight shooters read precise pitch/roll, not 8-way digital steps
• Build strength — aluminum internals take the leaning force players naturally apply
• Trigger layout — thumb fire + finger triggers, like the original
• USB HID output — shows up as an analog controller in MAME; assign the axes and go

The GRS Star Wars Flight Yoke

The GRS Star Wars Flight Yoke is a drop-in replacement for the Arcade1Up Star Wars cabinet and a plug-and-play USB controller everywhere else — PC, Raspberry Pi, MAME. Owners tell us it "plays just like the original." Complete it with:

• Desktop mounting stand — fly at your desk, no cabinet required
• Control extension kit — extra inputs for complex setups

Setup notes

• In MAME, map AD Stick X/Y to the yoke axes and calibrate once in the analog menu
• Star Wars (1983) wants smooth, low-deadzone response — the default GRS calibration is tuned for it
• Arcade1Up install steps are covered in the Arcade1Up compatibility guide

FAQ

Does it fit the Arcade1Up Star Wars cabinet?

Yes — it's a direct replacement for the stock yoke, with analog precision the original Arcade1Up part lacks.

Yoke or flight stick?

Yokes for Star Wars/After Burner-style flying; sticks for Tron and tank games — see the flight stick guide.

Everything yoke lives in the flight yoke collection; wiring diagrams and manuals are on each product page and in our Help Center.
