I recently purchased the TOS GRS Switchable 4-to-8 way Restrictor for Sanwa JLF Joystick All in One Kit along with the Extension Kit. I have an AtGame Legends Ultimate arcade unit with thousands of games installed and decided I wanted all of my 4-way games (Pac-Man, Burgertime, etc.) to play properly. Playing a 4-way game with an 8-way joystick will cause your avatar to freeze whenever diagonals are hit which can be a nuisance. These restrictor gates allow you switch between 4-way and 8-way mode with the touch of button. When I initially bought my Sanwa JLF joysticks, I ran into an issue with the diagonals not always registering in 8-way mode with the switchable gates installed. My favorite game is Street Fighter II and this was a bit frustrating at first. I thought there was something wrong with the gates as the JLF's I purchased were brand new and from a reputable company. I reached out to the Thunderstick team, and they provided me with the best customer service I've ever experienced. Their team did tests for me and sent me videos and pictures. They were very quick to respond to all of my questions. I could tell they really do care a lot about their customers and their products. They could have easily refunded me, but they wanted to make sure everything was working properly. In the end, I purchased another set of Sanwa joysticks to test and learned that the originals I had (although I still believe them to be authentic) were slightly off in some sort of way and that was the reason I was having issues with the switchable gates. After a bit of fine tuning with their PC program, I was able to get all the diagonals to work in 8-way mode. I drilled a hole for the 2-in-1 button that was provided and now I am able to switch between 4-way and 8-way with ease. The light up button also looks really nice especially since I was able to customize the colors to match my ball tops and buttons (yellow for 4-way and purple for 8-way). I really love these switchable gates. It has definitely improved my ALU cabinet and made so many games that much more enjoyable. I couldn't be happier with the items I purchased and the amazing support from the Thunderstick team! They rock!

If you’re installing the GRS 4 to 8 way restrictor in a 2 player cab, this is a must have to do the second joystick. As an added bonus, you get a second 2 in 1 button so if you don’t want to drill extra holes, you can assign the second button to take the place of any other two buttons, but usually you’d use it for the player 1 and 2 buttons. I only used one button to control both of my joysticks on the At Games Legends Ultimate cabinet and it’s really easy to drill the front of the plastic control panel lower housing. I customized the color so that the button matched the pink on the cabinet for 8 way mode, and left the original blue for the 4 way. After all was said and done it looks factory. I already had a USB hub for the BitLCD marquee so once I got everything configured, it was easy to plug in. I drilled another hole in the back of the control panel housing next to the other connections to accommodate the USB cable. All in, the whole thing took maybe an hour and probably less. Great product!
