GRS USB Spinner

Thanks to the guys at tsticks!
I am pleased with this spinner knob paddle controller!
It works on many devices like Steam and MAME.
It also works on Windows XP, except you can't use the SpinnerTool app software since Windows XP can't seem to read it, apparently. But still it works for some paddle based games on Windows XP.

Super Spinner

I have one of the original GRS spinners that you need the small encoder board for and I’ve had a lot of success with that but I was trying to modify an old RC car remote control that has the driving wheel on the side. I wanted to build a small, portable controller that I could take with my laptop to play driving games and I could not figure out how to do it and then I remember the GRS had a new spinner out, so I pulled out the potentiometer and the steering wheel out of the controller and the GRS button hole spinner fit. Absolutely perfect just was fantastic not too big not too small not too long not too short and it works amazing

Great but could still be improved

First of all using the spinner is a lot of fun to use with plenty of momentum when spun. I chose this one over other brands because it's newer, has 3 'resolutions', comes with two buttons and is relatively shallow.

I can only adjust the spinner driver settings right after connecting it to my win11 pc. If it has been plugged in for a while I can't change anything, not that there is much to adjust at the moment though.

For Mame or other emulators one 'resolution' may be fine but for Steam use more 'resolutions' or CPI settings would be much better. Three is not actually enough for fine tuning. Ten or even more would be better. Windows has mouse settings for some extra tuning but that affects my mouse as well. Being able to change CPI settings on the fly like you can with mice and the TS-UTB-PRO track ball would have been nice as well. Although for pc use being able to change it through the spinner driver would be enough.

Perhaps not required for the classic arcade games but having two additonal connections for a total of four buttons that could be remapped in the spinner driver would have been welcome.

The usb cable is probably the perfect lenght for a panel, however for a spinner box it's a bit short. It was just long enough to connect it to my monitor. Having it connected to my monitor isn't very convenient so I put the cord inside and added a panel usb port to my box. For that solution it would have been nice to be able to choose between a regular and a short cable. Although there's usually enough space inside a spinner box.

I couldn't get myself to cut into the GRS box however it is very suitable as a (temporary) spinner box. To make it even easier to get new users started it might be useful to add a cutting template, in the box or as downloadable pdf.

I'm contemplating to make a plywood spinner box similar to my cardboard one and/or another with an Ultrastik + 8 buttons for Tempest 2k/4k. I may get an additional spinner for that.

I can’t speak to the actual product since it hasn’t reached me yet, 15 days later. But I think it would good to inform customers about shipping times before ordering. I assumed it would ship from the US and take a week, maybe 10 days.
